Monitor training, player recovery, and training adherence
To play tennis requires that each player has the required physical qualities to meet the demands of the game.
Tennis has a demanding sporting calendar, with games being played on different surfaces. The junior game is normally played over 3-sets, and typically viewed as both an aerobic/anaerobic game, with players performing a high number of short-sprints. Other player performance characteristics, include -
-
Accelerations and decelerations
-
Agility, cutting and change of direction at speed
-
Lateral movements
-
Jumping and landing strategies
Through regular strength and conditioning training, this can prepare each player to be sport ready and meet the demands of the game. By being prepared for their sport, players can play with confidence and express their individual qualities in the game – Improvements in recovery between phases of play. Better acceleration and decleration - Higher relative strength to aid in agility, cutting, and lateral movements.
The youth strength and conditioning platform supports the coach through the four areas of youth physical development and sports performance.
-
Test, track and monitor player's physical development and overall progress
-
A range of strength and conditioning training. All physical capacities are highly trainable

The injury rates in youth players are increasing, with most injuries being classified as overuse or sport-related injuries.
A general lack of preparation and high volumes of sports-training (sport practice and competition) can place the youth player at a higher risk of overtraining, feelings of burnout, and sustaining an injury.
In the game of tennis, players report a high level of injuries both to the lower and upper limbs, with the knee being frequently injured, followed by the shoulder, and both upper and lower back.
As tennis is a highly-dynamic game, having an excellent aerobic/anaerobic capacity will help with recovery between phases of play. A high level of relative and reactive strength are correlated with acceleration and change of direction at speed.
Performing strength and conditioning that integrates a range of neuromuscular training has shown to reduce the risk of injuries, Including
-
Strength training
-
Plyometrics drills
-
Agility cuts and drills
The Youth Strength & Conditioning app empowers each youth athlete to regularly perform their strength and conditioning training.
Strength and conditioning programmes are fully automated to save time. Each programme consists of a range of exercises, including neuromuscular training. Athletes can watch the exercise and drills, which demonstrate optimal form and technique.
Athletes can upload the repetitions, training loads, and effort level, which is synched to the coach’s portal, allowing the coach to analyse training volume and adherence.

The importance of player wellbeing and recovery are essential for the growth and development of each player.
To reduce the risk of high-volumes of sport training and competition, overtraining, and feelings of burnout, players can track their wellbeing and overall recovery.
Created for youth players, the youth players complete weekly questionnaires that monitor key areas
-
Overall fatigue level
-
Muscle soreness
-
Energy levels
-
Motivation
-
Sleep quality and feelings of freshness
All sports have a specific demand. For players to perform they need to be fully prepared and recovered.
All aspects of the player's training and recovery - strength and conditioning, sports training, sport competition, and lifestyle factors need to be coached, as they are all linked to sports performance.
As each player grows and matures, their strength and conditioning training and recovery strategies need to develop with them. This will give each player every opportunity to perform at the highest level.
To accompany our youth strength and conditioning curriculum, we regularly deliver CPD and workshops - professionally endorsed by Active IQ.
